As you may be guessing from its name, GhostSurf is about surfing the web in an anonymous and safe way. The concept behind this application is to bring you the possibility to preserve your right to privacy in the Internet, just like you have it in real life. This is not a simple goal to achieve since almost everybody is watching what to do and when you do it on the Internet, beginning from your Internet service provider until an unknown hacker-style guy playing games.
The second important concept of this application is the ease of use, oriented to non-experienced users. It will not be very helpful a sophisticated piece of software you can’t put to work by yourself, and that’s exactly why Tenebril developers have designed a simple, intuitive interface for GhostSurf.
The standard edition of GhostSurf, which is the one being reviewed here, consists of two main modules: Privacy Control Center, and TacksCleaner. Let’s know something about each one:
Privacy Control Center is the module from which you can configure how GhostSurf is going to manage your privacy while you’re online. This module is organized into tabs with the following names and functions:
- Privacy: from this tab you’ll be able to choose your preferred privacy level among: Normal (the lowest), Anonymous, Invisible, and Secure.
- Special Sites: here you can list the sites exempted from your privacy level.
- Traffic: here you can see a list with all the data that has passed through GhostSurf to the Web.
- Add-ons: this tab enlists the available add-ons for GhostSurf which can expand its power.
- Options: from this tab you’ll be able to configure some customizable parameters of the Privacy Control Center.
- About: it displays some information about the application.
TracksCleaner is the module in charge of erasing every trace you leave behind on the Internet, which happens all the time actually. This application allows you to be relaxed knowing that nobody will be able to track you down from the Web. This application is a single window with a toolbar on the left. Each button on the toolbar has a name and specific function. Let’s know them:
- Wipe Now: from here is where you trigger a complete cleaning on your PC in the elements you check in the list the program shows on the left.
- Elements to Wipe: from here you select categories of files and applications to which the cleaner must go.
- Files/Folders to Wipe: similar to the previous option applied to specific files and folders.
- Previously Deleted Files: to check a history log of the previously deleted files by the TracksCleaner.
- Scheduler: allows you to schedule automatic cleaning jobs.
- Options: to customize the behavior and characteristics of the application.
There are different versions of GhostSurf, being this one maybe the most cost-effective option. You can check out all versions of GhostSurf and buy the one you like online, right from the Tenebril web page.
